"In the first twelve weeks of a puppy's life,

you are endowed with an almost magical ability to shape his future.  During this brief window, it takes only the lightest touch to make a permanent impression on your puppy, and you have the power to change the outcome of his life by what you choose to teach him in these first twelve weeks."

Puppy Culture

Training and Socialization

The first twelve weeks of a puppy's life are critical for socializing, and his experiences during that time lay the foundation for all future training. Since the puppies will be at the breeder's for at least eight of those twelve weeks, the breeder has the responsibility to give your puppy the best start possible.

Our puppies are raised with developmentally sensitive, systematic training and socialization according to the Puppy Culture protocols. We offer appropriate experiences at appropriate times by observing developmental markers in the puppies that alert us to their readiness. This builds confidence and emotional stability, leading to calmer dogs.

We also teach the puppies how to communicate with their humans, as natural puppy behaviors that communicate well with other dogs are not acceptable in the human world. This gives each puppy a voice, while avoiding behaviors like jumping on their people. For example, we teach puppies to sit to make a request (this is called "manding"), using positive reinforcement rather than disciplining for biting or jumping.
